Henrico students win National Merit $2500 Scholarships

Two Henrico County students were among the 2,500 nationwide Merit Scholar designees recently announced by the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 finalists, the two Henrico winners of the National Merit $2,500 Scholarship are Jessica A. Jordan of The Steward School and Paul R. Sabharwal of Douglas Freeman H.S.  Jordan has expressed an interest in international business as a career, and Sabharwal plans to pursue a career field in intellectual property law.

National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Scholars are selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who appraise information submitted by both Finalists and their schools, including the academic record, difficulty level of subjects studied, grades, standardized test scores, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, essays and faculty recommendations.
