Henrico students prepare for Arbor Day with 'Plant It!' program

Table of Contents

Third-graders at Greenwood Elementary School in Henrico County celebrated spring by planting redbud tree seedlings with some help from Suyapa Marquez, senior community affairs representative at Dominion Energy. The students in Tricia Conlon’s class are enrolled in Project Plant It!, the environmental education program created by Dominion Energy in 2007 to teach children about the many benefits of trees and the important role of trees in the ecosystem. All participants receive a free redbud tree seedling to plant for Arbor Day.

This year, the program will distribute about 70,000 tree seedlings to students in areas served by Dominion Energy. Project Plant It!’s website added three new online games of tree trivia for grades K-4, 5-8 and 9-12.
