Numerous locations in Henrico to provide free summer meals for kids

Table of Contents

A number of schools, recreation centers, churches and daycare facilities will offer free meals this summer to children, as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Summer Food Service Program.

All children are eligible for meals at no charge at most summer sites run by Henrico County Public Schools and Henrico Recreation and Parks and at a number of church and daycare sites as well. In past years, the program focused on children enrolled in summer programs.

At the Henrico schools and recreation facilities, once the scheduled meal service for children enrolled in summer programs is over each day, meal service will begin for other children age 18 or younger who are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parents and guardians are not eligible for the free meal service.

Thirty-one sites will be serving meals to all children, while one program site – Echo Lake Elementary School – will continue the former policy of providing meal service only to children enrolled in summer programs.

Food service will be from Monday through Thursday each week. (All sites will be closed Wednesday, July 4, in recognition of the Independence Day holiday.) Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch will be served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Specific breakfast and lunch times will vary depending on the location.

Service is on a first come, first served basis, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the administration of the meal service. Meals will be provided to children at the following sites:
