Henrico Schools to offer workshops for parents, guardians, teachers

Henrico County Public Schools will offer a series of seminars this month and next designed to assist parents, guardians and teachers.

The winter/spring edition of its Family Learning Series includes topics such as smartphone secrets, a dyslexia simulation and summer planning for students and families. The series is presented by Henrico Schools’ Department of Family and Community Engagement, and workshops are held at public libraries and school facilities throughout Henrico County.

The seminars are:

• “Hidden in Plain Sight” (workshop on possible signs of drug and alcohol use by teens): Feb. 19, 6-7:30 p.m.
• “Be Smart Community Safety Campaign”: Feb. 20, noon to 1:30 p.m.
• “Are You Smarter than Your Child’s Smartphone? Social Media Tips, Tricks and Secrets”: Feb. 26, 6-7:30 p.m.
• “Is Your Child Struggling in School?”: Feb. 27, noon to 1:30 p.m.
• “Developmental Milestones”: March 5, 6-7:30 p.m.
• “Developmental Milestones”: March 6, noon to 1:30 p.m.
• “Human Trafficking: Is It in My Community?”: March 12, 6-7:30 p.m.
• “Raising a Confident Child: What’s Your Parenting Style?”: March 13, noon to 1:30 p.m.
• “Family Learning Night: Let’s Make It Happen!”: March 19, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
• “Dyslexia Simulation”: March 26, 6-7:30 p.m.
• “Summer Planning for Students and Families”: March 27, noon to 1:30 p.m.

Register for workshops by emailing Terry Talbott at tktalbott@henrico.k12.va.us or by calling (804) 652-3787. Parents, guardians and Henrico County Public Schools staff members are welcome to register. Recertification points will be awarded to teachers who attend.
