Henrico Schools to make announcement at 4 p.m. about possible closure

"Henrico County Public Schools is currently discussing all options involving the possible closure of school, and we plan to make an announcement at, or shortly after, 4 p.m., which is when high school students dismiss," school system spokesman Andy Jenks wrote on the system's social media accounts shortly before 1:30 p.m. "This would allow us to minimize disruption to the school day while classroom instruction is still ongoing."Last night, President Donald Trump announced a travel ban between the United States and most European countries as a result of the virus. During the past 24 hours, the NBA, NHL and Major League Soccer announced that they would cease competition for an undetermined period of time as a way to reduce the possible spread of the virus. Major League Baseball is expected to announce similar plans this afternoon. Most Division I college basketball conference tournaments have been canceled, and the status of the NCAA men's basketball championship tournament is not known.
