In addition to getting to test-drive a school bus, participants will be able to learn more about the responsibilities of bus drivers and how they are paid. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to all applicants over the age of 21. Candidates for full-time and substitute driver positions must have a valid Virginia driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL Class B instructional permit or hold a CDL Class B license with endorsements in P/S (Passenger Transportation/School Bus) and airbrakes. Applicants also will be required to pass a physical and drug test.

The minimum hourly rate for bus drivers in Henrico County is $25, and eligible applicants are also eligible for a variety of incentives, including signing bonuses of up to $3,000, which will be paid in installments throughout the year.

Newly hired bus drivers also are eligible for extended full-time contracts with the school division, including summer school opportunities.

Those who are planning to drive a bus at the event should register in advance online.
