Henrico Schools to host Back-to-School Kickoff Aug. 11 and 12

Henrico County Public Schools will hold a division-wide “Back-to-School Kickoff” event Aug. 11 and 12 at Fairfield Middle School for all Henrico families.
The event will feature both kid-friendly activities, such as a basketball tournament and a family festival, and opportunities for parents to talk with HCPS leaders and receive information about community resources.
The Back-to-School Kickoff will start with a Friday evening pep rally-style family festival on Aug. 11 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. HCPS will be hosting several kids’ activities that evening, including a DJ, food trucks, and giveaways. The event will include free books for all ages and free school supplies, while supplies last.
Families can also register their children for school, talk with representatives from a host of HCPS departments, and get information about resources available throughout the school division and in the community. An HCPS job opportunities booth will be available for prospective teachers, bus drives, cafeteria workers, and other staff members.
On Aug. 12, activities will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a three-on-three “Hoop it Up” basketball tournament at the new outdoor basketball complex at Fairfield Middle School. There is a $150 per team fee for participants in the adult division, but no fee for students ages 8-17 participating in the youth division. Space in the tournament is limited and participants should sign up by Aug. 8 at www.hoopitup.com/virginia.

Sponsors of the Back-to-School Kickoff include HCPS’ Division of Family and Community Engagement, the Henrico County Government, and the Building Constructive Communities Foundation. Participants can sign up to volunteer for the Friday or Saturday events at www.tinyurl.com/HoopItUpVolunteers. HCPS will accept and distribute donations of backpacks and school supplies at the event. • help with using Schoology and PowerSchool;
• a table at which families can register for school and complete online forms;
• an HCPS job opportunities booth for prospective teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers and other staff members.
