Henrico Schools seeks public input on future school-year calendars

Table of Contents

A vote by the Virginia General Assembly this year has provided all school systems in Virginia with the opportunity to start before Labor Day, if they choose to do so. While Henrico County Public Schools will open after Labor Day in 2020, school system officials are seeking public input about whether to change that schedule the following year and beyond. They will host three public meetings in the coming weeks to receive input from citizens about the school calendar, including the start date and whether more short breaks throughout the year would be more desirable than several long ones.

The meetings will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.:

• Oct. 30: L. Douglas Wilder Middle School, 6900 Wilkinson Road, Henrico;
• Nov. 5: New Bridge Learning Center, 5915 Nine Mile Road, Henrico;
• Nov. 6: Pocahontas Middle School, 12000 Three Chopt Road, Henrico.

Information received at the meetings will be shared with the HCPS Calendar Committee as the members develop calendar options.
