Henrico Schools plans ‘Drive the Bus’ event June 4, job fair June 7

Henrico Schools will host two hiring events in the coming days – a “Drive the Bus” opportunity June 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Richmond Raceway and a job fair June 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tuckahoe Area Library.

The first is designed for those interested in becoming bus drivers for the school system and will allow them the chance to drive a course in the parking area and learn about job duties, work schedule, pay and benefits. A valid Virginia driver’s license is required. To sign up in advance, visit www.henricoschools.us/transportation/.

The job fair will have information for potential  teachers, substitute teachers, school nutrition services staff members, temporary instructional assistants, custodial workers and bus drivers.

A newly hired bus driver is eligible for a bonus of as much as $3,000, paid in installments throughout the year. HCPS also has offered new safe driver and attendance incentives to drivers already on staff. Extended full-time contracts for up to 219 days are available for candidates interested in working during the summer.

Qualified driver candidates will be paid as they train.

Candidates for full-time and substitute bus drivers must: be at least 21 years old; have a valid Virginia driver’s license; be able to obtain a CDL Class B instructional permit or hold a CDL Class B license with endorsements in P (Transporting Passengers)/S (School Bus) and airbrakes; pass a physical and a drug test. Depending on the situation, candidates with felony convictions may be eligible for employment.
