Henrico Schools officials Thursday announced details about the school system’s planned Summer Academy program, which will provide students of all grade levels with opportunities for enrichment, content-reinforcement, remediation and exploration. The program is expected to be especially popular this year, following a year unlike any other, during which students have spent months learning virtually.

A virtual workshop scheduled for March 29 at 6 p.m. will provide details for parents and will be recorded for those who want to view it later. Registration for the summer program then will begin April 12.

To attend the workshop, visit http://tinyurl.com/BridgeBuildersAcademy. The event will use Microsoft Teams. No registration is required, participation is free and you can take part without creating a Teams account.

Details about Summer Academy also will come to parents and guardians from their children’s schools. Registration forms will be sent through SchoolMessenger and also will be available on each school’s website, and print-format material will be available in each school’s main office. Registration for the Elementary Summer Academy (for current HCPS students in pre-K through grade 5) will be open through May 7, and the program will run July 12 through Aug. 5. The program, which is free, will include:

• teacher-led in-person or virtual learning in literacy and math (whole class as well as small groups), as well as social-emotional learning;
• eleven program sites across Henrico County;
• transportation for all students;
• free breakfast and lunch.

Parents and guardians will be able to enroll students for the entire four-week program or select one of the two-week sessions (July 12 through July 22 or July 26 through Aug. 5) instead. Each session will run Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Registration for the Middle School Summer Academy will be open through June 22, and dates and times will vary by program. The academy will offer:

• English and math content-reinforcement;
• study skills programs;
• remediation;
• enrichment in creative writing and public speaking (noncredit, in-person and virtual courses);
• accelerated courses (Bridge to Algebra and high school credit courses for rising ninth-graders);
• summer polytech courses (noncredit);
• transportation for all students.

Registration for the High School Summer Academy also will be open through June 22, and dates and times will vary by program. The academy will offer:
