Henrico School Board to host virtual 'student town hall' meetings

Table of Contents

Members of the Henrico School Board will hold a series of three virtual meetings with HCPS students to discuss a variety of topics. The first two meetings will take place Thursday, Aug. 6, and a third will be Aug. 31. All HCPS students are invited to attend each meeting.

Students may ask questions at the virtual meeting or submit them ahead of time using an online form available at https://henricoschools.us/family-learning-series/.

Thursday at 10 a.m., Marcie Shea (Tuckahoe District) and Micky Ogburn (Three Chopt District) will host a meeting at 10 a.m. and Roscoe Cooper (Fairfield District) and Kristi Kinsella (Brookland District) will host one at 2 p.m.

On Aug 31 at 10 a.m., Varina District representative Alicia Atkins will host her meeting.

Possible topics for the meetings, according to school officials, include students’ ideas for effective virtual learning; building a sense of school community and supporting growing connections while not in buildings; “transition buddies” for students entering a new school; outdoor events to encourage social and emotional connections; and resources for mental and physical well-being and ways to stay motivated and combat isolation and depression.

For details and information about how to join the discussions using Microsoft Teams (or to view previous forums from the series), visit https://henricoschools.us/family-learning-series/. No registration is required. The sessions also will be recorded and posted online for additional viewing.

The meetings are part of HCPS’ Community Conversations series. Adrienne Cole Johnson, director of the school division’s Department of Family and Community Engagement, moderates the discussions.
