Lily Snow of Deep Run High School was named a runner-up June 3 at the Times-Dispatch/Sports Backers Scholar-Athlete awards dinner, taking home a $5,000 scholarship.

Snow was one of eight Henrico scholar-athletes who joined 12 others from high schools around the region. Other finalists from Henrico County included Ali Ibrahim of Glen Allen, Lauren Murphy of Mills Godwin, Logan Ransom of The Steward School, Nick Viers and Emme Levenson of Douglas Freeman, and Christian White and Sierra Tutwiler of Highland Springs. Each won a $2,500 scholarship.

Jadah Ellison-Johnson of J.R. Tucker High School was awarded one of two Cheryl Lockett Oliver Memorial Scholarships, also for $2,500.

Held at The Jefferson Hotel, the event featured Kristin Carpenter Steadman at guest speaker. Steadman was the 2009 Times-Dispatch/ Sports Backers Scholar-Athlete of the Year while at Hanover High School. Steadman went on to play volleyball at Penn State, where she was a part of teams that won two NCAA championships and three Big Ten championships. She currently is an assistant coach at the University of Maryland and was recently named Hanover High’s greatest athlete in a Times-Dispatch series featuring the greatest athlete from 50 of the area’s high schools.
