Henrico, Richmond health districts planning COVID testing events, flu vaccinations

Table of Contents

The Henrico and Richmond health districts are planning six COVID-19 testing events and offering ongoing flu vaccinations in the coming days and weeks.

Officials from the districts are urging citizens to avoid traveling or gathering with people from outside their households during the holidays. Those who are planning to do one or both, however, can get tested during local events Dec. 10-18.

Those are planned:
• Dec. 10, 2-4 p.m., Southwood Management Property Office (1400 Southwood Parkway, Richmond, VA 23224);
• Dec. 11, 1-3 p.m., Eastern Henrico Health Department (1400 N Laburnum Ave, Richmond, VA 23223)*
• Dec. 14, 2-4 p.m., Diversity Richmond (1407 Sherwood Ave, Richmond, VA 23220);
• Dec. 15, 10 a.m.-noon, Eastern Henrico Health Department (1400 N Laburnum Ave, Richmond, VA 23223)*
• Dec. 17, 2-4 p.m., Second Baptist Church (3300 Broad Rock Blvd, Richmond, VA 23224);
• Dec. 18, 10 a.m.-noon, Regency Square Parking Deck (1420 N Parham Rd, Richmond, VA 23229).

(The events marked with asterisks are drive-through only.)

“We know there’s an increased demand [for COVID-19 testing] because people want to be responsible and get tested before they spend time with their families,” said Lanier Olsson, community testing project manager for the districts, “and we want to support that.”

Registration is recommended for COVID-19 testing events; call 205-3501 to register.

Every weekday in December except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the districts will offer flu vaccinations from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Richmond City Health District, 400 East Cary Street in Richmond.

Those who visit for a vaccination should bring their insurance ID cards, if they have one. There is no cost to patients with or without insurance.

"It's important that we do everything we can to safeguard our health this winter, especially during COVID surges,” said Karen Carle, public health nurse. “Getting the flu vaccine just makes sense. We want all Richmonders who want one to get one."
