Henrico resident George Sushkoff will join Swim Across America Aug. 26 in support of VCU Massey Cancer Center.

Sushkoff, 58, was recently diagnosed with Stage 1 to Stage 2 colon cancer and describes himself as a future cancer survivor.

A member of the Virginia Masters Swim Team, River City Masters workout group and Run Short Pump, Sushkoff has participated in the Swim Across America - Richmond swim events since 2020, but this will be his first swim as a cancer patient. Sushkoff is the captain of Team River City, which raised more than $26,000 in last year’s event.

Held annually at the Quest Swimming pool in Midlothian, the event will feature hundreds of swimmers helping to benefit research as well as advocacy efforts for patients. Since the inaugural Richmond swim in 2019, Swim Across America – Richmond has raised more than $250,000 for local beneficiary VCU Massey Cancer Center.
