Autumn Zaborowski, of Henrico, has been named the 2024 Angel in Adoption honoree by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute for her work to support adoptive and foster families.

Zaborowski has been an adoptive mother to two boys and also has worked to build relationships between the Henrico Department of Social Services and the faith community to help better the lives of countless adoptive and foster children in the area, said Rep. Rob Wittman (VA-01), who nominated her for the award.

“Every child deserves a loving family where they can grow to reach their full potential,” Wittman said. “Adoptive families face unique challenges and are in turn rewarded with unique blessings and the satisfaction of having said ‘yes’ when others said ‘no.’"

Wittman also praised Zaborowski's work with Adoption-Share (a nonprofit that aims to bring efficiency and transparency to the adoption process) and her local church's adoption and foster care support group for helping to build those relationships.

“As a child of adoption myself, I am eternally grateful for the incredible work and dedication of individuals like Autumn Zaborowski,” said Wittman.

The Angels In Adoption Program was created to honor individuals and organizations that make extraordinary contributions to adoption, permanency, and child welfare. Each year, the Angels in Adoption honorees travel to Washington, D.C. to both celebrate their hard work and dedication to the issues and participate in special events designed to engage them in using their personal experience to effect change on behalf of children in need of safe and nurturing families.

The program also draws national and local media attention to raise public awareness about the positive difference adoption makes in the life of a child, and inspires others to step forward to consider adoption, fostering and other creative ways to help.

Zaborowski also is a member of the Henrico Citizen's Citizen Advisory Board.
