Henrico reports lowest single-day COVID-19 case total since November

Henrico County reported its lowest number of new COVID-19 cases since November on March 8 – just 33, according to the Virginia Department of Health. The seven-day moving average of daily new cases fell accordingly, down to 48.

There was one new hospitalization related to the virus reported in the county on Monday, but no new deaths, according to the VDH. The VDH had expected to finish processing all backlogged death certificates from the post-holiday virus surge by this past weekend.

As cases continue to decrease, the average positivity rate among both PCR tests and antigen rapid tests in the county continues to decrease, according to VDH data. As of March 4, the seven-day average positivity rate among PCR tests was 6.2 percent, and among rapid tests, it was 6 percent. Testing data intentionally lags behind a few days to include as much information as possible.

With an average of 52,575 COVID-19 vaccines being administered across the state of Virginia every day as of March 4, efforts to bring the pandemic to an end are becoming more fruitful. In Henrico County, 86,447 vaccines have been administered, with more than 56,000 residents receiving at least one dose, according to the VDH. More than 30,000 Henricoans have been fully vaccinated.

More than 2.3 million vaccinations have been administered across Virginia, with 1.49 million having received at least one dose since December, making up 17.5 percent of the population according to VDH data. Local health departments have stepped up as the leader in facilities administering vaccines over hospitals.
