Henrico reported its fewest new COVID-19 cases on a single day Monday – 33 – in more than two months, according to Virginia Department of Health data.

It also was the 10th time in the past 11 days that the county reported fewer than 100 new cases.

The county’s average number of new daily cases during the past seven days is now 82, trending downward again after a slight bump upward caused by the 129 new cases reported Saturday. New case counts typically are lower than average Sundays and Mondays, reflecting fewer testing encounters during the weekend.

Henrico has witnessed seven virus-related deaths already in October, however, along with four virus-related hospitalizations.

The last time Henrico's new single-day case count was lower than 33 was July 27, when 18 cases were reported.

During the past five days, more than 900 Henricoans have received their first dose of COVID vaccine, while more than 1,000 have become fully vaccinated, according to the VDH data. In total, nearly 216,000 county residents now have received at least one dose and nearly 197,000 (59.5% of Henrico’s total population) are fully vaccinated.

Henrico has 10 current outbreaks (at least two or more related cases), ranking it second in that category statewide behind only Chesterfield, which has 13 outbreaks.

The Henrico outbreaks are occurring at eight senior communities at two schools (Twin Hickory Elementary and Richmond Montessori School, each of which have reported fewer than five cases).

Five of the senior communities have reported at least one death associated with the ongoing outbreaks: Beth Sholom Gardens, Glenburnie Rehab & Nursing Center, Karolwood Gardens Richmond, Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe and Westport Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Glenburnie Rehab & Nursing Center has reported 22 cases since its outbreak began Sept. 1, while Westport Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has reported 20 cases since its outbreak began Aug. 18.

The other senior communities with current outbreaks are:
• Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe (fewer than five cases since Sept. 2);
• Karolwood Gardens Richmond (12 cases since Sept. 9);
• The Laurels of University Park (8 cases since Sept. 10);
• Parham Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center (fewer than five cases since Sept. 10).
• Blue Ridge Senior Living of Richmond (15 cases since Sept. 13);
• Beth Sholom Gardens (17 cases since Sept. 16).
