The Virginia Department of Health reported 11 new COVID-19 related deaths in Henrico County during the first two days of July, increasing the county’s total number to 152, according to the Virginia Department of Health. Details about the deaths were not immediately available, but it is known that only one of the county's deaths since late May has occurred in a person younger than 60.

In total, 77 of the deaths occurred among people 80 or older, 36 among those in their 70s and 28 among those in their 60s. Eight people in their 50s and two in their 40s have died from the virus, as well.

The new wave of deaths reported this month already exceeds the total number reported in the county during the entire month of June (10).

Henrico’s 7-day positivity average of new cases continues to increase slightly, rising from 6.1% June 27 to 6.3% June 28, the most recent day for which that data is available.

Henrico has reported 12 new cases during each of the first two days of July, increasing its total number to 2,615 since the pandemic began in mid-March. Nearly 34,500 PCR tests have been administered during that same time, meaning the percentage of positive results is about 7.7 percent.

No new hospitalizations were reported Thursday, but three Henricoans were hospitalized with the virus Wednesday, according to the VDH.

Henrico is currently experiencing four outbreaks in long-term care facilities, only two of which have reported any deaths to date.
