New daily COVID-19 cases in Henrico remained below 100 for the fifth straight day Tuesday – the longest such streak since mid-August.

The county reported 87 new cases Tuesday, following typically lower-than-average numbers Sunday (69) and Monday (54), reflecting fewer testing encounters during the weekend.

Henrico is now averaging 92 new daily cases in the past week, a figure that generally has been trending downward since reaching 127 Aug. 27, according to Virginia Department of Health data.

Two new COVID-related deaths were reported in the county Tuesday, bringing the total number this month to 30 and 681 overall during the pandemic.

Henrico has witnessed three new hospitalizations related to the virus in the past three days.

The county’s seven-day positivity percentages for PCR testing encounters (6.5%) and rapid testing encounters (5.4%) both are well below the state averages of 9.1% and 8.5%, respectively.

About 1,200 Henricoans have received their first dose of COVID vaccine in the past six days, while about 1,400 have become fully vaccinated. Overall, just about 65% of all county residents have received at least one dose, while 59% are fully vaccinated. Among adults 18 and older, 70% of the county’s population is now fully vaccinated.

Children younger than 12 are not yet eligible for the vaccine, but on Tuesday, Pfizer submitted initial data to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration about its vaccine's effectiveness in children 5 to 11. The company intends to file a formal request for emergency use authorization for that age group in the coming weeks.
