Henrico receives $145k in Homeland Security funds

Henrico County will receive $145,000 in federal Homeland Security grant funding for three separate emergency preparedness efforts, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management announced this week. In total, VDEM is allocating $9.6 million in federal money to 125 projects statewide.

Henrico will receive $48,000 for to help fund a state hazardous materials team and $76,000 to help fund a swift water/flood rescue team. Those two allocations were among $3.9 million in non-competitive projects awarded by VDEM.

Henrico also will receive $21,000 in federal funding for whole community preparedness outreach and response training; that money was part of $2.5 million awarded to 54 state projects as part of a competitive funding process. (One-hundred twenty-six projects sought funding.)
