Teachers and staff members will report to their schools Monday but then they, too, will be off through March 27. But, Cashwell said, "virtual learning” experiences (digital and non-digital) will be available to students of all grade levels starting on Tuesday, March 17."

Details, Cashwell said, would be made available in a subsequent message to parents and guardians.

The Citizen has learned that those plans for elementary school students – termed "distance learning plans" – will include a number of at-home learning activities, designed to allow students to have experiences similar to those they would have at school. A package for students in each grade level will contain links to a variety of exercises and additional optional resources. Parents and guardians will be asked to have their children complete their work on a schedule that works best for the family.

The school system also is devising plans to ensure that students who rely upon meals served to them at school are assisted while school is out, Cashwell said.

While schools are closed, school officials will clean and sanitize the schools and buses, she said.

The school system created a page on its website on which it will provide all COVID-19 updates; view it at https://henricoschools.us/covid19.

If students do return to schools after this two-week hiatus, they will do so only for one week; the school system’s scheduled spring break is the following Week, April 6-10.
