Henrico Public Library to launch summer reading challenge June 15

Table of Contents

The program aims to encourage readers collectively to read 100,000 books through Aug. 15. During last year’s challenge, participants read nearly 80,000 books.

Participants will set their own reading goals, log their reading and learning activities and receive prizes as they advance. Participants will receive a pencil and a bookmark for signing up and be entered into a gift card drawing when they complete their first learning activity.

The program, sponsored by the Friends of Henrico County Public Library, will reward participants throughout the summer, starting with a “progress prize” in July – a color-your-own bandana for children, a Rubik's Cube for teens or a mug for adults.

Children and teens who complete the program will be able to select a new, free book; adults will receive a voucher for a free book from the Friends of the Library Book Sale.

Those who complete the challenge also can enter to win grand prizes, including a Nintendo Switch Mario Choose One Bundle; a Brother xr3774 Sewing and Quilting Machine; or a family membership to the Children’s Museum of Richmond, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden or Science Museum of Richmond.

Registration will remain open for the duration of the program. For details or to register for the 2023 Summer Reading program, click here.
