The Henrico County Police Division is investigating a telephone scam that involves someone trying to obtain money under false pretenses by posing as a Henrico Police officer.
According to police officials, citizens have reported calls from someone posing as a Henrico officer or detective. In one incident, the scammer claimed to be part of the Social Security Administration and was claiming that there was fraudulent activity and an active warrant for the call recipient’s arrest. The scam included actual names and numbers of Henrico Police personnel to make it set authentic.
“The Henrico County Police Division will never call you asking for money,” said Henrico Police Lt. Matt Pecka. “We want to remind our community and those in surrounding jurisdictions to never provide their credit card information over the phone and to report suspicious phone calls immediately.”
If you received a call like this, call Henrico’s non-emergency line at 501-5000 or 501-4810 to report it.
