Henrico Police detain suspect who dragged, robbed elderly woman in West End

UPDATE: OCT. 14 – Henrico Police located the suspect – 29-year-old Eric C. Lewis – in the 6000 block of Staples Mill Road driving a 2000 Honda Civic. He has been charged with robbery and malicious wounding and is held without bond at Henrico Jail.

Henrico Police have detained a suspect who they say committed a strong-arm robbery of an elderly woman Oct. 11 in the West End.

It happened in the 6200 block of West Broad Street at about 2:20 p.m., when the woman was approached by the suspect as she exited a business. The suspect, described as a white male, 30 to 35 years old, between 5 foot 10 and 6 feet in height and weighing between 185 and 195 pounds, asked if she needed help with her groceries.

The suspect helped load groceries into her car and then attempted to steal her purse. The victim was pulled to the ground and dragged approximately 10 feet; the suspect then stole her purse.

The woman was transported to a local hospital to be treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
