Henrico Police are seeking leads from the public on a cold case incident from 2007 that left a man dead.

Gary Post, Sr. and his two sons had checked into a motel room at the Legacy Inn in the 5200 block of Airport Square Lane April 3, 2007. They were planning to fly out of Richmond International Airport the next morning for a wedding in Texas.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. April 4, as the three men were moving items between their car and their room, four masked Black men entered their room and demanded money. One of the suspects shot Post in the chest, and he later died at a local hospital.

Witnesses had observed four Black men wearing masks who were in a silver vehicle before and after the incident.

The Posts had raised their hands and told the suspects they wouldn’t give them any problems, and the suspects were retreating from the room when one of them shot Post.

They were last seen by witnesses getting into the silver vehicle and fleeing the scene. Witnesses said they had observed the vehicle driving in and out of the motel’s parking area all day long.

The criminal investigators had previously developed some useful information in the case, but police are hoping that someone in the community may have additional information.

Anyone with details should call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or submit tips on the P3 tip app; both are anonymous.
