Henrico Police have identified a person of interest in connection with a series of events that may have been racially motivated that took place at an Eastern Henrico grocery store July 24.
At about 12:30 p.m. that day, a customer at the Publix store in the 4500 block of South Laburnum Avenue allegedly told employees that she did not want a Black associate to bag her groceries. After leaving the store, the customer allegedly was driving erratically and nearly hit the same associate with her car while leaving the parking lot.
Police officials reviewed the store’s video surveillance and identified the person of interest, then shared initial results from the evidence with Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor for consideration of criminal charges.
Anyone who witnessed the event should call Henrico Police at (804) 501-5000.
