There was a strong police presence in the Carrington subdivision in Glen Allen Friday – but not because something was wrong.

Instead, police officials were there to pick up turkeys and other food items from a family that had donated them for the police to distribute to other families in need countywide.

The donors chose to remain anonymous publicly; police officials said its members have donated meals in the past, too.

With food in hand, members of the Henrico Police School Services Unit dispersed countywide deliver the food to families with children – opportunities that also allowed them to engage with citizens and foster positive relationships, according to Henrico Police Lt. Matt Pecka.

“Thanksgiving is a time to share memorable moments, give thanks and help others. We’re thankful for this family and their donation,” police officials said in a statement.
