Henrico Police have arrested a 59-year-old county man of charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with an Oct. 1 shooting that left a 47-year-old woman dead.
James Stevenson faces the charges in connection with the murder of 47-year-old Maria Elaine Gillette, who police said was “domestically related” to Stevenson.
The incident happened shortly after 10:40 p.m. in the 2200 block of Shirleydale Avenue. Police responded and tracked a male who had reportedly left the house in a vehicle toward Darbytown Road.
Gillette was pronounced dead at the scene, and officers patrolling the area were able to identify the vehicle that had left the residence. They stopped it and arrested Stevenson.
A caller who reported the incident, a juvenile, was unharmed.
