The National Weather Service forecasts as much as 3 to 5 inches of rain in Henrico and other local areas, with more possible through Friday evening.

"The biggest emphasis, as always for roads related to storm safety, is drainage," said Rob Rowley, Henrico's chief of Emergency Management and Workplace Safety. "We're making sure that storm drains are open and that drainage lines and drainage routes are free of obstructions."

Crews have been staging signs around low-lying areas that may be needed to notify residents if roads become flooded.

The Henrico Department of Public Works will be monitoring road conditions countywide and paying particular attention to more than 40 flood-prone locations. They're also checking to make sure their generators and backup pumps are ready, if needed, to maintain water and sewer services during the storm.

Residents are urged to report any roads that are flooded or blocked with debris during the storm by calling (804) 501-4393.
