Henrico officials Feb. 12 dedicated a section of Cox Road in Innsbrook in honor of Sidney J. Gunst. Jr., the developer of the Innsbrook Corporate Center who died last year.

At the ceremony, officials also posthumously awarded Gunst with the Henrico County Board of Supervisors’ Distinguished Community Service medal.

The 1.4-mile stretch of Cox Road between West Broad Street and Nuckols Road is now known as the Honorary Sidney Gunst Parkway.

A native of Henrico and graduate of Douglas Freeman High School, Gunst envisioned and developed Innsbrook beginning in the early 1980s. The 600-acre business park now is home to more than 500 businesses and 22,000 employees. Gunst died in October.
