Henrico County is averaging 183 new COVID-19 cases every day during the most recent 7-day period – an all-time high driven by an explosion of new confirmed cases since Christmas.

The county reported 165 new cases Monday – its lowest daily number since Dec. 30. In between Henrico witnessed four days with case counts higher than any previous day during the pandemic, including the new all-time high of 236 Jan. 1.

Hospitalizations and deaths, however, have remained relatively on pace with their levels during the past few months. Henrico has witnessed eight new virus-related hospitalizations in 2021 and one new death.

The county’s 7-day PCR testing positivity percentage is up to 13.2% as of Dec. 31 – the highest it’s been since April 28, when testing data was skewed because testing levels were very low. Its rapid, or antigen, testing percentage as of the same date is 13%.

Statewide, both levels are at about 16%.

Rapid testing in the county has been increasing - up to 590 such tests daily as of Dec. 31 – while PCR testing levels have fallen recently, to about 1,070 a day from a peak of more than 1,300 in mid-December.
