Henrico Extension opens enrollment for SMART Scapes program

Table of Contents
The Henrico County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is now enrolling interested residents in SMART Scapes, a program that helps residents assess their home landscape for problems; provides instruction on proper planting, pruning, and mulching techniques; and offers guidance on how to select the right plant for the right spot.
For a $10 fee, Master Gardener volunteers will visit a home, analyze the landscape and provide a reference folder customized for the home’s landscape, which will include a map of the property, fact sheets on current plantings, general gardening information for the area and a soil test kit.
The SMART Scapes program follows the concepts of SMART — Soil test, Match Plants to Site, Arranging Plants, Rain and Irrigation and Trouble-free maintenance, which emphasizes best management practices for a beautiful, healthy and sustainable landscape. Turf grasses will not be addressed in this program.
Registration for the program starts April 1 and is open through Sept. 30. To download an application on or after April 1, visit henrico.gov/extension/services, or call (804) 501-5160 for details.
