Henrico Doctors’ Hospital is among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for cardiology services and treatment of stroke, according to Healthgrades, an online resource for information about physicians and hospitals. The organization evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.

“We are honored by our recognition and achievements, which reflect our goal of providing the highest level of care to our patients,” said Will Wagnon, chief executive officer of Henrico Doctors’ Hospitals. “We have an outstanding team of physicians, nurses and I want to commend our team for their dedication and commitment to our hospital and more importantly, to our patients and their families.”

The Heart Center at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital was recognized as one of the top hospitals in the nation for cardiac services. Physicians at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital perform cardiac surgical procedures that include minimally invasive valve surgery, aortic valve replacement, mitral valve replacement and coronary artery bypass graft.

“Henrico Doctors’ Hospital is recognized for pioneering some of the nation’s most innovative cardiac procedures, including the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, a minimally invasive procedure that allows our patients to recover quickly, with little to no pain or scarring,” said Dr. Anthony Spensieri, chief medical officer at Henrico Doctors’ Hospitals. “Our cardiologists and cardiac surgeons continue to collaborate with one another to develop the latest techniques and procedures, which directly contribute to the superior outcomes and results in treating heart disease, heart failure, and heart attack. We are extremely proud to be recognized for our continued excellence in cardiovascular care.”

HDH also was cited for its neurology program. Certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital has been named a Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Stroke for 15 years in a row.

Henrico Doctors’ Hospital’s achievements are part of findings released by Healthgrades and are featured in their 2018 Report to the Nation. The new report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally.

“Consumers place high value on information about hospital quality and use it to evaluate their choices for care,” said Brad Bowman, M.D., chief medical officer of Healthgrades. “Hospitals that have achieved recognition for their quality outcomes prove their commitment to their patients and their community at large.”
