Henrico County Division of Fire officials celebrated the graduates of its 79th Recruit Academy and its Paramedic Academy at a ceremony at J.R. Tucker High School June 20.

Twenty-one firefighters graduated from the 79th Recruit Academy, which included an accelerated six-week school for new members with prior fire-service experience, and also a traditional 30-week school for others.

Ten current Henrico firefighters graduated from the 4th Paramedic Academy.

“The Recruit Academy 79 graduates, the graduates from Paramedic Academy 4, and the families of everyone who walks across the stage tonight have a lot to be proud of," said Henrico Fire Chief Jackson Baynard. “These individuals play an essential role in the Division of Fire’s promise to protect the lives and property of our neighbors in Henrico County. To say we’re grateful for them is an understatement.

“Henrico County Division of Fire is one of the best departments in the world. I encourage anyone interested in a career in the fire service to get to know us.”

The division is actively seeking candidates for future academies, and the current recruitment period is open until July 3. Learn more at henrico.us/fire/recruitment.
