The Henrico County Division of Fire was one of two fire departments in Virginia to earn the Excellence in Virginia Fire Services Award from Virginia Gov. Glen Youngkin, who announced award recipients Feb. 21.

Youngkin praised Henrico Fire as a “highly regarded department known for its dedication to training and regional partnerships.” The department responds to more than 55,000 calls annually and has maintained international accreditation for more than 25 years.

In a press release, Youngkin and state officials credited the department for its instrumental role in supporting large-scale statewide training events that help ensure fire service personnel statewide receive advanced and essential training.

The Goochland County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services also received the award for its construction of a $1.2-million live fire structure that is used for regional training exercises.

The Governor’s Fire Service Awards have been presented annually since 2002. This year, they honored 14 individuals and departments.

"These award recipients embody excellence, dedication, and leadership in the fire service, and I am honored to recognize their contributions to public safety across the commonwealth," said Youngkin. "In collaboration with Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Terry Cole, we celebrate and thank these recipients for their unwavering dedication and commitment to safeguarding our commonwealth."
