Henrico officials have confirmed the county's fifth known case of rabies this year.
A raccoon found in the 6700 block of Horsepen Road in Henrico's Near West End Oct. 28 tested positive for the disease, according to Henrico Police officials. The raccoon had potentially come in contact with a dog, which now has been quarantined on its owner's property.
No other animals or people were exposed, police said.
Henrico County Animal Protection officials remind pet owners to keep their pets' rabies vaccinations current. The county offers rabies vaccination clinics throughout the year. The next clinic date has not been set, but updates will be posted on the Henrico County Animal Shelter’s website.
Residents should report any abnormal wildlife behavior or possible rabies exposures to Henrico Police at (804) 501-5000.
