Henrico community groups join together to teach fatherhood classes

My Brother’s Keeper of Greater Richmond is teaming up with the Henrico Education Foundation to conduct fatherhood classes for men in the Henrico community. Classes will begin Sept. 15 and continue through Dec. 8.

My Brother’s Keeper seeks to restore families by helping and encouraging the father figures to learn skills that will help the community as a whole.

The group focuses on men who have gone through individual struggles, such as child support issues, custody issues, anger issues and lack of community support.

These issues prevent the group members and other men of the community from being the leaders they have been asked to be, said Minister Stephan Hicks, the organization’s founder and executive director.

“We provide brotherly love, encouragement, support, in addition to personal development skills,” he said.

Hicks said that joining the group provides camaraderie for participants and helps them learn parenting skills, communication skills, decision making, conflict resolution and anger management.

My Brother’s Keeper’s meetings are being held via Zoom for the time being during the COVID-19 pandemic.
