Henrico Citizen celebrates 18 years

Table of Contents

Today is the 18th anniversary of the first edition of the Henrico Citizen. We're officially all grown up (we think)!

The landscape of journalism has changed in many ways since our first issue published just nine days after the Sept. 11 attacks. But our focus – to provide you with as comprehensive, fair and interesting a look at the news of our county as we can – has not, even as the way we deliver news to you has.

Back then, we existed largely as a twice-monthly print publication only. Today, you still can find us in print on the first and third Thursdays of each month countywide, but we also operate a daily website, distribute our Henrico Newsflash e-mail updates to more than 12,000 readers three days a week, post frequently on Facebook and Twitter and publish annual magazines.

We believe in the value of community journalism. We believe it's important that citizens of a community are informed and educated about what's happening around them. We love this place, and we're here to connect it, watch it, ask tough questions about it and celebrate it.

We'd like to thank every reader, advertiser, friend and supporter of ours from the past 18 years. Without you, this endeavor wouldn't have survived.

It's no secret that small, independent community news outlets like ours are fighting uphill battles every day just to survive. We're no different.

If you believe in what we do and find value in it, we would be most appreciative of your support.
