Henrico Christmas Mother

The Henrico Christmas Mother program, which has served Henrico families in need and disabled adults since 1942, this year will accept only monetary donations, as a result of COVID-19.

The organization typically receives thousands of donated items – clothes, food, toys, toiletries and more – at its warehouse on Dabbs House Road, then allows recipients to come to the warehouse and select items before the holidays in December. But health concerns stemming from the pandemic convinced officials with the organization to shut down the warehouse this year.

“The health and safety of our volunteers and recipients is of the utmost importance as we address COVID-19,” the organization wrote on Facebook.

In lieu of physical items this year, the organization will provide qualified recipients with gift cards for the purchase of food, clothing, books and toys.
