Henrico averaging 131 new daily COVID cases; rapid testing increases

Henrico’s average number of new daily COVID-19 cases during a 7-day period has dipped to 131 as of Monday, following a peak of 152 on Christmas Day.

The county experienced 103 new cases Monday, following two days of fewer than 100 cases each.

Henrico set a new daily case record Dec. 20 with 176, then tied that record three days later.

The county has reported 13 COVID-related deaths during the past week, according to the VDH, as well as 14 new hospitalizations associated with the virus.

Henrico is averaging 2 new daily deaths and the same number of new hospitalizations during the past week, roughly in line with the levels of each that it has experienced since early June.

Levels of PCR testing in the county have remained relatively stable recently, averaging nearly 1,350 each day during that time, but rapid testing has increased dramatically in Henrico during the same timeframe – from 427 Dec. 13 to 708 10 days later.

The seven-day positivity percentage among PCR testing encounters in Henrico is 8.8% (up from 7.6% Dec. 1), while during the same timeframe, the positivity percentage among rapid testing encounters is 8% (down from about 11% at the beginning of the month).
