Henrico averaging 131 COVID cases per day

Henrico County is averaging 131 new daily cases of COVID-19 during the past seven days after reporting 155 new cases Tuesday, according to the Virginia Department of Health. The county now is one case shy of 12,000.

Henrico also witnessed five new COVID-related hospitalizations Tuesday and reported two new deaths, according to the VDH. All but 22 of the county’s 290 virus-related deaths have been reported in people 60 or older.

About 50% of the deceased were white, while about 39% were Black, and 5% were Latino.

About 47% of the 675 people hospitalized by the virus in Henrico have been Black, while 34% were white and 10% Latino.

Overall, whites account for 57% of Henrico’s population, Blacks 31% and Latinos 6%.

More than 206,600 COVID tests have been conducted on Henrico citizens during the pandemic – that’s the third-highest number conducted in any locality, trailing only Fairfax and Prince William counties.

Henrico’s 7-day PCR test positivity percentage of 8.3% is well below the current state average of 12.2%. Henrico is averaging just shy of 1,300 PCR tests per day during the most recent 7-day period.

The county’s 7-day positivity percentage for rapid, or antigen, tests is 10.1%, based upon an average of about 635 per day during the most recent 7-day period. During the same timeframe, the state average on rapid tests is 12.2%.
