Henrico again reports nearly 80 new COVID-19 cases

For the fourth time in eight days, Henrico has reported 78 or more new COVID-19 cases.

The county witnessed 79 new cases Wednesday, according to the Virginia Department of Health – an increase from 43 Monday and 66 Tuesday. It’s now averaging 63 new daily cases during the past seven days.

It's the first time since late March and early April that Henrico has had at least four days with 78 or more cases within an eight-day period.

Two new hospitalizations related to the virus also were reported Wednesday in the county, though Henrico continues to average just one new hospitalization per day during the past week.

The seven-day positivity rate among PCR testing encounters in Henrico is now 6.8% as of Aug. 7, the most recent date for which the data is available. As of the same date, rapid testing encounters in the county returned a positivity rate of 7.5%.

Both are below the state averages of 7.5% and 8.3%, respectively.

Nearly 61% of Henrico’s population now has had at least one dose of vaccine and nearly 55% of county residents are fully vaccinated. Among those 18 and older, those figures are 72.4% and 65.7%, respectively.
