Heart Havens opening Henrico home for adults with developmental disabilities

Table of Contents

Nonprofit organization Heart Havens is opening a new home in Henrico County for adults with a developmental disability. The location in Glen Allen will support four people with developmental disabilities, providing 24 hour care and support to help them be as independent as possible while also connecting them with the community. It is projected to open with the first clients moving in to the home in mid April.

Heart Havens clients all have been diagnosed with a developmental disability in childhood, and many also have physical disabilities. The organization is raising funds to cover the capital costs associated with remodeling the Glen Allen home to support the clients, with a goal of raising $200,000.

Heart Havens opened its first such home 25 years ago in Virginia Beach, which continues in operation today. Altogether, with the opening of the new Glen Allen home, it will operate eight Virginia homes, with four of them located in the Richmond region.

Though Heart Havens is primarily funded by Medicaid, donations help cover what Medicaid does not pay for like groceries for healthy, homemade meals, internet and phone plans, household supplies, vehicle expenses, recreation activities, home maintenance and repair, and incidental medical costs not covered by other insurance.
