Virginia Cooperative Extension officials will host the 2022 Healthy Land for Healthy Horses Short Course Saturday, Oct. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chesterfield Extension Office, 9501 Lori Road in Chesterfield.

The event is open to all local residents; admission is $40 and includes refreshments, lunch and educational materials.

The course will help those who own and pasture horses better understand effective pasture management techniques. When horse pastures are managed properly, it can lead to better nutrition for horses, reduced feed cost, and stewardship of the land.

Specialists from Virginia Tech, University of Kentucky and local Extension Agents will speak about forage management, weed control, soils and nutrient management, composting, soil erosion, and partner resources.

The event will include time for consultation with agents to help attendees build their own pasture management plans. As part of the course, there also will be a visit to a local farm to allow for networking and building relationships with horse owners throughout the area.

Pre-registration is requested by Oct. 10 and available at https://tinyurl.com/HLHH2022 or by contacting the Chesterfield Extension Office at (804) 751-4401 or asierra2@vt.edu.

Those with disabilities or who need assistive devices, services or other accommodations to participate should call (804) 752-4309 by Oct. 10.
