GRTC passenger dies in I-64 crash in Henrico

A passenger on a GRTC CARE bus that ran off the road and crashed on I-64 in Henrico’s West End has died.
The accident occurred at about 6:10 p.m. April 20 near mile marker 179 on I-64 East.
Virginia State Police reported that a black Chevrolet Silverado was merging onto I-64 East from West Broad Street and struck the white Ford E-450 bus, which then ran off the road to the right. The CARE bus had only two people inside – the 53-year-old female driver and one passenger, who died at a local hospital.
The Silverado struck a tractor-trailer in the center lane and then overturned, according to police.
The driver of the Silverado was a 51-year-old male from New Kent County; he also was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. There is no word yet on possible charges in connection with the incident.
The name of the victim has not yet been made public.
