A student at Godwin High School was arrested Thursday morning after he allegedly brandished a handgun on school campus Wednesday, according to Henrico Police.

After students reported the incident to school staff Thursday morning, school resource officers detained the boy Thursday in order to investigate the allegation.

A handgun and ammunition were found in the boy’s belongings, according to police. The boy was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a concealed weapon, underage possession of a firearm, and possession of marijuana on school property.

Police said that there are no further credible threats toward any specific school, student or staff member.

In an email to Godwin families Thursday morning, Principal Leigh Dunavant expressed gratitude to the students who “courageously” reported the incident to school staff.

This is the second incident this week in which a Henrico County Public Schools student was arrested on gun charges on school grounds. A Henrico High School student was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly brought a gun onto school grounds, police said.
