A Glen Allen woman and her mother will compete on the Fox reality television cooking series Crime Scene Kitchen, whose new season debuts May 22.

Kristy Gardner, 34, of Glen Allen, and her mother, Tarsha Joyner, of Lynchburg, will compete with other bakers in an attempt to go head-to-head against some classically-trained teams.

Gardener is a Lynchburg native and single mother of three who is a professional baker and owner of Joy Jr. Treats, which was inspired by her mother’s company, Mrs. Joy’s Absolutely Fabulous Treats in Lynchburg. Gardener had a storefront location in the West End but closed it in August 2022. Through her company, she serves cinnamon rolls, custom-ordered cakes, cookies, brownies, caramels, turtles, cupcakes, Macarons, and other treats.

In 2021 she participated in a show called The Holiday Baking Championship Gingerbread Showdown on Food Network.

If the mother-daughter duo continue to advance, they’ll have the chance ultimately to compete for the show’s $100,000 grand prize award. Crime Scene Kitchen is hosted by Joel McHale and features judges Curtis Stone and Yolanda Gampp.
