Table of Contents

Kristin L. Hines of Glen Allen has won a corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship award financed by the National Merit National Distillers Distributors Foundation.  The National Distillers Distributors Foundation established this endowed scholarship program in 2008. Earnings from the endowed funds annually provide awards to Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

A graduate of Maggie L. Walker Governor's School, Hines was one of more than 7,500 winners this year of National Merit Scholarships worth a total of over $31 million. Approximately 1,000 of those awards, like this one, are financed by companies, foundations, and other business organizations for National Merit Scholarship Program Finalists who meet their scholarship sponsors’ criteria.

Established in 1955 to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program, NMSC is a not-for-profit corporation that operates without government assistance. The majority of National Merit Scholarships offered each year are underwritten by some 410 independent corporate and college sponsors that support NMSC’s efforts to honor the nation’s scholastic champions and encourage academic excellence at all levels of education.
