Glen Allen man wins writing contest, trip to Hollywood

Table of Contents

Ryan Cole of Glen Allen will travel to Hollywood as a winner in the Writers of the Future Contest, and his winning story will be published in an international anthology.

After six years of living and working in contract negotiation in San Francisco, Cole recently moved back home to Virginia in order to pursue his dream of writing full time.  His winning story, "A Demon Hunter's Guide to Passover Seder," earned him the trip and a cash prize, in addition to publication in the annual bestseller, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 37.

A husband and a father to a pug child named Wally, Cole likes to read epic fantasy, hike, and bake when he is not writing. This is his first professional fiction sale.

The Writers of the Future Contest was created by L. Ron Hubbard (author of Battlefield Earth) in 1983 to provide opportunities for aspiring writers of speculative fiction.  Now in its 38th year, the contest (http://writersofthefuture.com) is judged by some of the premier names in speculative fiction, and the award is considered the genre’s most prestigious honor of its kind.

Anticipating that the pandemic will be over and large events able to occur, Cole will travel to Hollywood this fall for a weeklong workshop and be honored at a black-tie awards gala.
