The new members were welcomed during a ceremony Sept. 14 at Williamsburg Jamestown Airport. They are from 22 different cities and towns throughout the state, as well as Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

Kenneth Kueny of Glen Allen was among the group of 2023-24 gold-level members honored during the event.

To earn gold-level membership, participants must visit not only public-use airports, but also four air museums, a fly-in, and a safety seminar.

New members include a father and son from Vienna, a mother and daughter from Williamsburg, and a child from Glen Allen. Participants can pick up a specialized blue passport and then begin getting stamps at each airport they visit.

The Virginia Department of Aviation hopes that by showcasing Virginia's airports to pilots and non-pilots, they will become more aware of the economic benefits that airports have on the state.

"When you're visiting these airports, you are also visiting the local sites, eating at restaurants, staying at hotels, and filling up on fuel," said Greg Campbell, director of the Virginia Department of Aviation.
